Renée Zito was appointed Director of the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs by Governor Schwarzenegger in February 2007. As Director, she led the Department’s efforts to reduce alcoholism, drug addiction and problem gambling in California by developing, administering and supporting prevention, treatment and recovery programs.
Prior to accepting the appointment, Ms. Zito served as the director of programs at Marin Services for Women. From 1994 to 1999, she was the executive director of the alcohol and drug treatment center, Hazelden New York. Prior to that, she served as director of Treatment at Smithers Alcoholism Rehabilitation Center of the St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center from 1986 to 1994. Ms. Zito previously taught at the New York State Academy of Addiction Studies and served as an adjunct instructor at Hunter College.
Renée Zito was elected as President of the NCADD-Sacramento Board of Directors in April of 2015.
