By Barbara Thompson, Executive Director

The Rotary Club of Sacramento is one of the oldest service groups in the Sacramento region. It was chartered in 1914 and with approximately 500 members, it is among the 20 largest Rotary clubs in the world.

Last month, I was honored to be inducted into the Rotary Club of Sacramento and to be sponsored by two outstanding leaders in the Sacramento region: Elfrena Foord, Partner in the Financial Services firm of Foord, Van Bruggen, Ebersole & Pajak, and Rotary Club of Sacramento Executive Director Hal Shipley.   My father, Ken Sayre, was President of the Palo Alto Rotary in 1956-57 and I am proud to carry on this family tradition of service to our community.

I have always been impressed with the level of service Rotarians bring to all activities.  The Sacramento Club distributes Foundation funds to deserving local charitable organizations to assist people, especially youth, who are indigent or mentally or physically disabled and to improve health, and safety. Internationally, Rotarians have made a commitment to eradicating Polio.  They have made extraordinary progress as Polio is now eradicated in all but two countries. I look forward to working with my fellow Rotarians, and sharing my experiences as Executive Director of NCADD Sacramento to increase awareness of needed family and addiction services.
