Those of us providing drug prevention and treatment services in the greater Sacramento region are increasingly concerned by the legalization and medicalization of marijuana. The amount of marijuana being grown in homes and fields, coupled with the proliferation of dispensaries in unincorporated areas of our county are creating problems that must be addressed. Key issues of safety, ethics, public health, financial gain and impact on treatment programs all need to be examined and discussed.

Communities throughout California that have taken a proactive stand are successfully minimizing negative consequences from this escalating new ‘retail’ business.  The new Marjuana Task Force is in the process of formulating our position. It should be finalized next week, and I’ll be posting it on NCADD- Sacramento’s Facebook fanpage. You may be surprised at the stand we’ve chosen to take.
